Staff newsletter - January 2020

Happy New Year.jpg

Welcome to ZED's first staff newsletter. We aim to send these out once a month, keeping our team fully updated with what's happening and what's new in the company, as well as welcoming new staff, detailing forthcoming events (so you can register an early interest to work), forthcoming training opportunities, SIA updates, and lots of other stuff we think might be of interest.

A very big THANK YOU to everyone working over the Christmas and New Year period. As usual at this time of the year, there were a few operational challenges but, as a team, we all worked together really well and the season passed relatively trouble free.

A big WELL DONE Eugen for being our employee of the month. Eugen received a glowing report from the NHS for going above and beyond following a response shift over Christmas. We'll be sending a £20.00 Costa Coffee voucher to him shortly. Also, a big mention to Loren and Claire (Mouse) who helped a customer out at a Town Hall event on New Year's Eve. A few days later the customer sent the girls a potted plant as a 'thank you.'

A BIG welcome to our new security team members Alex Stone and Chris Hill who both joined the company this month. Robin Barratt has also joined the company on various projects, including helping us set up procedures and policies for SIA Approved Contractor status. Robin is an experienced door supervisor and close protection officer, and is known for his books Doing the Doors, Confessions of a Doorman, Respect and Reputation and many more.

The start of not just a new year, but a new decade has been a good one for ZED, with lots of new clients and contracts. We're now starting to recruit seasonal security staff and stewards for events and festivals from Easter through to November including: European Crossfit Champions 22nd and 23rd Feb; Corbeau Seats rally (Tendring and Clacton) 25th and 26th April; Ipswich May Day Festival; Greystock, 22nd to 25th May; a number of Cambridge College Balls, and many more. Contact us for further information and to register your interest in working. We are also recruiting for experienced Door Supervisors for licensed venues in the town.

For those of you who don't know, our group of companies are made up of five separate divisions: ZED Security and Guarding, which covers all manned guarding, door supervision, event security as well as our NHS Bed Watch support service and our dog patrols at the new Mercury Theatre; Key Plus Training - which provides Door Supervisor, First Aid, Conflict Management and other security related training; ZED Medical, which provides medical support services at events; Kendall Facility Management, which provides facility & estate management, grounds maintenance & environmental services and Wally Pack Presents, an event management company. If you need to contact us for any reason, our office is open from 0800 to 1700 Monday to Friday. Out of these hours please call 07424 291521.

Weekend DS course.jpg

Our next Door Supervisors course is held over two weekends - 22nd and 23rd Feb and 29th Feb and 1st March. Ideal for anyone wanting DS training but can't take time off work to attend a four consecutive day course. Price is just £195.00. Call the office for further details or to book your place.

We are committed to making sure our team are happy working with us, and that there are no work related problems, issues or situations that might affect work, so to help support our team more, 2020 also sees ZED introducing a new staff appraisal system. where we'll ask you to pop into the office at a convenient time and chat to you very informally about your work and things like; what you have enjoyed the most, and the least, what roles you found easy and what were more challenging, what skills you have that you use in your role and, importantly, how you might like to develop within the company and we can help facilitate this. Very informal, and we might even make you a coffee and offer you some cookies (if Robin hasn't eaten them all first). Initially we'll ask all our new starters to pop into the office after their first few weeks, and eventually roll it out for everyone.

Do you know someone that would like to work for us? Are they loyal, trustworthy and don't mind working long hours? Then please ask them to contact us.

Until next month, stay safe!

PS: How many people can ride in an ambulance? Just paramedics and someone else if they’re patient enough!! (Gordon's Gags)
